Within the project “Sboryanovo – discover, know, narrate”, a two-day training of local animators was planned, its aim being to prepare animators for the practical workshops and the archaeological game organised before and during the first Archaeology Festival in the Sboryanovo Archaeological Reserve – “Sboryanovo – discover, know, narrate”.
The training sessions took place on 29 and 30 May 2023. The participants were young people from the territory of the municipality, who gained knowledge and practical skills for working with the public – visitors, tourists and guests of the festival. On the first day of the training, theoretical questions were examined concerning the nature and significance of the cultural and historical heritage on the territory of the Sboryanovo Archaeological Reserve, the need to protect it, as well as conduct during the event and its organisation. The second day of the training was devoted to setting out ideas for presenting the Sboryanovo Archaeological Reserve to the public, and to passing on and practising skills for working with visitors according to the needs of the activity.
The participants, pupils from local schools, were trained in how to make materials for the workshops and elements of the planned educational archaeological game. Together with the training leaders they successfully made these materials, and for most of them they used self-hardening clay with no need for firing. The young people practised laying a reduced-scale model of a wall, which will be part of the attraction of the “Stonemasonry and Building School” workshop. They were assigned as assistants in particular workshops and in the archaeological game according to their wishes and interests.
The pupils completed the training with knowledge of the local cultural heritage, and they acquired skills in presenting, working with the public and making the items needed for their participation in the archaeology festival. They received certificates for taking part in the training.
